Some very measured, intelligent comments from Cleveland State’s Dennis Felton on a number of issues going on with the NCAA. His take on health care is spot on, and something that rarely even gets discussed.
“The NCAA should use some of that money to provide health coverage for all the athletes instead of using athletes’ and families’ insurance policies — all of which are different,” Felton said. “They should provide consistent health care for all student-athletes across the NCAA so an athlete with a rich athletic department doesn’t get better health care for making the same investment as a student-athlete at a financially poor school. Something as simple as that would make sense.”
We had kids at Maine who got injured playing in a game, but couldn’t get the proper medical care because their insurance wouldn’t cover it and the school wouldn’t pay for it. That should never happen.
