Really liked this part from Nicole Auerbach’s article in The Atlantic about David Cutcliffe and how he’s turned Duke football into a consistent winner.

Once Cutcliffe got the staff he wanted in place, they began the work that any new coaching staff must do immediately: Evaluate the roster and start recruiting. They also went through an exercise unique to them.

That spring, Cutcliffe gathered his assistants together in front of a whiteboard. He asked them to list all the reasons they couldn’t win at Duke. They filled the board.

“My comment to the whole staff was, ‘Now we know what we’ve got to work on,’ ” Cutcliffe says. “We were much more fortunate than people who have no idea what challenges they face. We knew the challenges we faced.”
